If you have natural curly hair...?

Should I get a perm...to have more even, and controlled curls? Or should I leave it...I really don't know what to do...

If you have natural curly hair...?

I have curly hair and years ago tried to get "uniform" curls by getting a perm. Big mistake. It can vary depending on how fine your hair is and other factors, but my result was a disaster. Its best to "tame" your curls in another way. You can straighten it, twist it when wet and let dry, or use various products. It may take some time and patience, but eventually you will find a system that manages your hair. And its nice to be able to tell people, "Yes, this is my natural hair and curl".

Have a gentle relaxer to soften the hair, then try rollers ( iron-heated products will damage more)

You should leave it the way it is.

Try to make something good of what you already have.

Try putting mousse in it when it's dry or using some type of detangler.

Perm often does not make hair more controlled, in fact it can make your curls even frizzier (believe me I know). I personally flat iron my hair, but when I want to wear it curly I put products into it. Aveda has several really good curl control products (based on curl concistency they will tell you which ones are for you), as do many other companies. If you live by a Sephora you can go in and ask about them and they will give you free samples to try. The grocery store, of course, has many great products too. Especially Frizz Ease. You can also go to sallys beauty supply for some products.

Sorry I couldnt be more particular, but without knowing your hair consistency (i.e. is it thick or thin, are your curls big or small, are your curls really frizzy) I couldn't give you good sample products.

A perm will permanently straighten your hair so that you will have to cut it out to get your natural hair texture back. Also, it may make your curls more uneven (relaxing the curl of some sections of your scalp more than others), cause breakage, thinning, or hair loss.

I would recommend staying au naturale - you can learn how to achieve the look you want without damaging your curls!

Hope this helps, Kaya
