Are their any safe alternatives to Relaxing hair -other than going natural?

My mom has been relaxing my hair since I was 10 about every 6 weeks. I'm worried about the harsh effects that relaxers have on my hair but i'm not willing to go natural

BEING A COSMETOLOGIST I WOULD HAVE TO SAY THAT NO, THERE ISN'T ANY OTHER WAY. YES RELAXERS ALWAYS HAVE A HARSH AFFECT ON HAIR.THAT'S WHY THEY PUT A BASE ON YOUR HEAD BEFORE THEY START. SODIUM HYDROXIDE IS THE MAIN INGREDIENT IN RELAXERS AND WILL BURN YOUR HAIR AND SCALP VERY BAD IF LEFT ON TOO LONG.

I BET YOU NOTICED YOUR HAIR BREAKING OFF IN MANY PLACES. MAYBE IT WOULD HELP IF YOU HAD AN OMNI-PACK A FEW WEEKS AFTER EVERY RELAXER.

GOOD LUCK AND LET ME KNOW HOW IT GOES.

I'm dealing with the same thing. You can straighten is daily with a straightener(flat iron), you can buy one at most beauty supply stores and pretty much anywhere else like Wal-Mart. However, putting heat on your hair is no better, heat can have extremely harsh effects on hair.

Get some Micro braids or some Kinky twists. They are safe and in style. I dont put relaxers in my hair anymore because i keep braids and my hair is growing really fast.

If you don't want to relax your hair, you could have your stylist give you a comb-thru perm. First, make sure she uses an alkaline perm (cold perm) and have her comb through the acid solution. Then, making sure the hair is completely saturated, gently comb it straight. The acid softens the hair and will mold in into any shape you desire. Then, wait the appropriate time, rinse, and add the neutralizer. Your hair is very soft at this point and needs something stabilize the ph balance. Gently comb the neutralizer through the wet hair. Wait, rinse, don't wash for 24 hours, and see how that works.

No. Either go natural, press it, or cut it off. I'm assuming you're an african american. You have to accept the grade of hair you have and work with it. Your hair will fall out if you keep trying to where it in styles that aren't meant for your hair grade. I have my hair braided like Alicia Keys' and I look good. Try a wet set with bone rollers. All those chemicals aren't good for your hair. Besides, what's wrong with natural? When you want a different look, wear a wig!
