Dying brown hightlighted hair back to its natural colour?

I have mid-brown hair which has been highlighted with a few shades of blonde. I would now like to go back to my natural colour and was planning to do this with a DIY kit at home.

Can I just follow the instructions of the box or do I need to prepare my hair for this first - wouldn't want the highlights to show through the redyed colour or for those sections to fade quickly.

Any advice would be great!

Leave the colour to grow out or you risk damaging your hair and routes...

Surely you need to strip the hair of its existing colour first.

I'm also transitioning back from blonde to brown, but I'm having it done professionally. We're taking it very slowly, by first leaving in some blonde highlights and dying everything else a very light brown. I haven't been very happy with the results, as the dye has quickly faded to a very light brown/dark blonde quickly, so I think no matter what you do a home dye will fade somewhat rapidly. But since home dyes are cheap, it probably wouldn't hurt for you to do it every month or so until your highlights have grown out. As for preparing your hair, since you are transitioning back to dark, it is probably NOT a good idea to strip your hair color first. I'd consult a professional though. Good luck!

well since you had high lights a light color whats going to happen is that you are still going to have them but that color it wont die evenly..but it will probly still look good like you got diffrent hightlights

is the h.l.'s completely blonde? any shade darker could result in your color not to be exact..it could be darker in some spots. Remember to follow the directions. Good luck. If you live near me i can apply it for you.

Nice N Easy has a product called Root Touch Up, you can use that to cover the blonde highlights, get it in your brown hair color and just brush over the highlights.

i work in a hairdressers - depending on the blondes in your hair depends on how long it will take for the highlights to re-emerge. if your highlights are bleach those strands of hair will find it very difficult to hang onto any colour no matter how dark for very long, if they are darker blondes the colour will stay for longer - however doing it yourself will always mean that you may end up with the hair dye taking perfectly to your natural hair and not to your blonde so you could be left a few quid poorer with your hair looking the same. i would personally suggest going to a salon and having a chat with one of they're stylists and see what they can do for you. if all you want is an all over tint you probably will only have to pay 鎷?5 - 30 better than having t constantly redye your hair as your unable to get the effect you really want. hope this helps xx

the blonde will go green if you try to put brown on it first you must put on a colour with red pigment in then you can put the brown on top of it and you can do both the same day quite safely

I just did this! I have med/dark brown hair, and used Revlon Coloriste to dye over honey-blonde highlights and it worked perfectly! It still looks great after over a month, no roots and no highlights showing through at all! Just be sure to deep condition a couple of days afterwards.

If your hair has been hi lighted over a period of time chances are that your hair may have become porouse, which means any colour that you put on will become a solid colour on the highlights ie brown becomes dark browneven black, advise pay the extra and go to the hairdressers, or be patient and let it grow out, do it yourself is a recipe for dissapointment

u may have to get it done proffesionally because ur highlights r a diffrent colour so they will go a diffrent colour to the rest of ur hair, i hav the same prob
