What is the best product to use to dye my hair back to its natural color after highlights?

I got my hair highlighted and it is now faded more than I like. How can I achieve a more natural color, without spending another 95 dollars at a salon. Which I am sure will fade in about 6 weeks. Are there any options for doing it home. I have natural medium to dark brown hair. I just wish I would have left my natural color alone - help! ps. my hair was bleached and I wanted light brown highlights, but they are now blonde.

We have the same problem although our Salon treatments do not cost as much as $95.00! Try using L'oreal Feria or the regular L'oreal dyes. Look for the medium to dark brown tones to cover or tone down the bleached highlights. You should at least wait for 6 weeks to 3 months before re-coloring your hair to avoid the dried up look. Please make sure to do a skin test before actually coloring your hair. Buy a teasing comb and some clips to aid you in partitioning. Follow the directions CAREFULLY and wrap yourself up before actually applying the dye. Wrap your ears with tissue paper and use clothes that you can throw away when applying the dye. Lastly, usually, on dye boxes, there are before and after effects illustrated, take time to view these so that you would know what to expect in terms of actual hair color. Don't apply dye on your scalp.. Just the hair! Good luck! I've done this like 5 times. It would really be great if you could ask someone to help you.

You need to get this done at the shop too! You will need to fill your highlights before you color or you can end up with green highlights.. And then you need to choose you color. You probably wont have to mess with it much then. I suggest you dont try the "kitchen beautician thing"

Depends on how long ago you got your hair dyed...if less then two weeks you can LEGALLY have the stylist fix it, because your hair "toned itself." sometimes this happens. They should be able to fix it by adding toner to your hair...this is the SAFEST and BEST and HEALTHIEST way to go about it. Toner is usually about $50 the most at upscale salons, if u can't get them to to it as a garuntee of their service. Most stylist want you happy with your hair, that's how u return. In my experiance the best way is to ask. Another way to keep your hair from fading is to wash it in cool water. warm or hot water expands the molecules which then allow the color to escape, that's y they usually put you under the dryer when your get your highlights. Bleach works like "pac-man" eating all your color molecules until ur at the desired color, in your case the stylist waited too long, or your hair toned itself. So first call and ask a stylist if you can get a toner on your hair...you'll get the natural brown you want without a layer of chemical dye over the fragile bleached areas. BEST WAY TO GET THE RIGHT COLOR? bring a picture or 3 of EXACTLY the color or highlight pattern your looking for, most hairstylists are "visual" people. To be honest with you home coloring kits, are scary if you choose the wrong one it will just cause more expense.

The best way to be sure of no damage is a color shampoo.Maybe a nice warm golden brown.{so you don't turn green}That will run $12.95 at a salon supply house Like Sally's.If you don't really like your hair find a stylist that uses Tocco Magico its from Italy and is a plant %26amp; herb based product. It also leaves the hair in great shape. The shine is so gorgeous.A base color back should not run more than $65.00.They only need to use a 10 volume to deposit. There is little to no change in your natural haircolor. You can walk out wet unless the stylist is a great one and decides she prefers to see your color before you leave and throws in a blow dry.You deserve to be happy with your hair. It causes us to see differently about our day. Be careful %26amp; good luck.

Whatever you do, don't buy any hair dye from a drug store or wally World. Go to Sally's Beauty Supply and pick out the color closest to your natural hair color. Try Clairol, and depending on your hair lenth you might need more than one bottle. Go with the Clairol that covers grey and has no base color of ASHE in it! The reason why I say the one that covers grey is because you can't go wrong with it. Get you some Clairfill, use brown if you are a medium to dark brown naturally. The Clairfill will fill in the highlights and make your hair color uniform and even and will make it accept the hair color afterwards. You will need to get you a plastic applicatior bottle. It looks almost like a baby bottle (in a way) and they are usually right next to the hair color. Get some 20 volume peroxide. Put the clairfill on your hair dry. Make sure it covers your hair completely and yes you can put the entire contents of the little bottle on all of your hair. Leave it in for about 20 minutes then wash out. Do not shampoo. Blow dry your hair and then pour the contents of the color into the plastic applicator bottle. If the bottle is 2oz then you will add equal amounts of peroxide to the plastic bottle and mix well. Have someone put it in your hair for you, preferrably starting at the roots sectioning it off as you go working your way to the ends. Leave in for about 20 minutes, wash out, shampoo and condition. You are good to go! Helpful Hint: color takes off color if you get any on your skin!
