How do I go about growing my hair out natural?

I know that people say to cut out all of the perm in your hair, but I dont want to cut off my hair like that since it's so long. I'd probably start crying. would it be okay if I just let my hair grow out and not perm it? it breaks off anyways, so the perm will be gone eventually. do you think that would look tacky, though? I'd press my hair until a lot grows out. what should I do?

Sorry to say, but the easiest way to grow your hair out natural is to cut it off. When I initially cut mine off, people thought I was crazy since my hair was past my shoulder. BUT, guess what, it's no big deal - hair grows back. My natural hair is healthier and now way past my shoulder, just about bra strap length when stretched. Since it was a shock to have short hair, I wore my hair in microbraids or opted for having my hair braided so I could easily wear a wig. Anyway, the problem with having two textures of hair - permed and natural is that it will cause breakage and damage so it's much easier and healthier to just cut it off. There's a book I love called Let's Talk Hair - look for it on an auction site - it should be very cheap and it talks a lot about the transition from permed to natural. Also, there is a natural website called nappturality.com for inspiration and a WEALTH of information.

the best thing you can do to let your hair grow out of the perm is to either keep it braided for a while like in micros or keep it in ponytails and updos. Keep your hair and scalp well oiled and moisturized. good luck and I know what you mean I have never had my hair cut and never will.

NO NO NO. If you already have a perm and u don't get another one in 6 -8 weeks it takes out your hair so that will actually harm it. The best way is to keep going to your hairdresser and get your perms regularly and keep it hydrated with oil and keep it conditioned and u should be good.

How do I go about growing my hair out natural?

So, I was asking this same question about a year ago. My hair was down to the middle of my back and I really didnt want to deal with "the big chop" so I tried to just have two textures....yeah, until I got the world's LARGEST knot in the back of my head where the textures had just gotten irreversibly tangled. I walked around with the knot for a whole week living in denial. Then I sat in the salon for 5 hours before I let that man touch my hair with those scissors. But guess what? I was still beautiful and now a year later my natural hair is past my shoulders and I love it. So even though it feels like a super huge deal it really isnt. Trust me. I sat and cried when I found out I would have to cut my hair. The entire carpet was soaked through with tears. But I got over it. Pressing your hair defeats the purpose because the heat also does slightly irreversible damage to your hair. If you are committed to going back natural just go for it and cut it off...trust me its best in the long run. Keep it in braids when its really short or rock it cute, trust me..it will just fine. You do not want your hair to break off because you are going to lose valuable lengths of your natural hair as well.
