How does hair detangler work? Does it damage your hair? Any "natural" products which have

I have really curly hair so any tips appreciated.

A hair detangler works by basically coating your hair with a derivative of silicone (cyclomethicone, dimethicone or similar). It is a safe, synthetic substance, and as such, does not damage your hair, but it does tends to build up (using a clarifying shampoo will help if your hair starts to feel "weighed down").

I have tried Shikai deep conditioner and it is GREAT for detangling, as it contains avocado oil and other natural ingredients, and is not tested on animals.

For awesome-looking curly hair do this: You will need some gloss serum (any of them will do, I like Citre Shine), and a curl-enhancing product or styling foam (I have tried the Shikai curl enhancing spray, and it is fantastic; L'oreal Studio Line Springing Curls is also good, as well as Sunsilk De-Frizz 24/7 Creme, or Aveda Be Curly). After you shampoo/condition, while hair is still wet, put a few drops of the gloss serum and distribute evenly through hair, combing it through. Avoid applying the serum to the roots (this is important, otherwise the roots will be weighed down and your curls will end up flat against your head). Then apply the curl-enhancing product of your choice, also combing it through to apply it as evenly through all your hair as possible, from root to tip. Then take small sections of hair, and curl them around your fingers. You can let your hair air dry at this point, or you can use a diffuser attachment on your blow-dryer on the lowest heat setting, with your head upside down if possible (this gives "lift" to the roots), drying from the roots outward, scrunching the hair as you go. Do NOT point the hair dryer at the tips of your hair, and in fact stop using the blow-dryer when your hair is ALMOST dry. This process is actually less time-consuming than it sounds and should produce shiny, well-defined curls.

Detanglers smooth the hair's cuticle and seal them, removing the roughened/dry look which causes knots.

It will only damage hair if you leave it in too long. It actually "sheds" different layers of hair, making it thinner and straighter.

No...it will NOT damage your hair. It's CONDITIONER so Airwave Angel?? You couldn't be more wrong.

It's lighter than a regular, daily conditioner and smoothes the cuticle and moisturizes. Some are in spray form and are not heavy for your hair. some feel more like a regular conditioner but you can leave them in without your hair feeling heavy and weighed down. (AG has a great one called FAST FOOD and it works really well on thicker, curly hair...just don't use a whole lot)

I Hope this helps!

I don't know about natural products, sorry...

But I use detangler/leave-in conditioner/heat protectant every day. It's great for your hair and makes sure I have no tangles. I also use a wide tooth comb when my hair is wet to minimize damage.

I have really curly hair too, and I find a leave in spray conditioner works best to detangle mine. Avon Advanced Techniques do a good one (you can order online) or Dove do one you can pick up in chemists and supermarkets. I spray it on my hair wet after showering and then just style with shockwaves curl defining mousse.
