I used that Garnier Fructis soft curl cream for curl definition, and it caused all of my hair to mat together like dreads. I'm not sure what happened, but I spent an entire day pulling out knotballs. I feel like my hair is completely damaged now, and I'm not sure what to do.
My hair is natural, I used a product, and it caused my hair to entirely mat together. Any advice?
You have to be careful to use products from hair-care lines that cater to your hair texture and type. I do know people who have used GF shampoo and conditioner but not many. That cream was most likely meant for people with curls who have baby fine hair. Cutting it off has to be the last resort if something doesn't give. Try putting a detangling conditioner in your hair. Make a small horizontal part at the back of your hair. Clip the rest up. Try to detangle a very small, tiny section of hair combing from end to root. This may take a lot of time. but work your way from the back to the front. Maybe you could get somebody to help you. If you've already done this and you were able to save most of your hair, buy a good reconstructor. Do a hot-oil treatment before each shampoo. Keep deep conditioning or using the leave-in. Do a protein treatment too. If you think your hair looks too bad or that you lost too much hair, then get it cut. But if you believe you have kept most of your length and don't want to cut it, just let it grow and grow while taking good care of it--you could always even it out at a later time after it has grown a lot.

I would suggest getting it professionally looked at.
But if you want to try something yourself, be gentle and don't pull at the tangles. Try rinsing it out with warm water if you haven't already, and bring a wide toothed comb into the shower with you to try to gently loosen the tangles with the help of the water.

My wife has said something similar has happened to her. Apparently not all products are compatible with everyones hair. Try washing it out with a shampoo you have good results with. Maybe try alternatives to it if you can find them.

Just wash it and use a good detangling brush like the denman brush, or a really wide tooth comb while its soaking wet or while in the shower..
